Seeds of Light has been supporting a school which is greatly in need of help in South Africa. The Funjwa Primary School is located in Acornhoek, Limpopo Province, which is one of South Africa’s most impoverished, destitute areas. When we first visited this school of over 900 children, we found the classrooms to be very minimal. Some had no desks, tables or chairs. The dedicated teachers have few supplies to use in their classrooms, yet they are masters at creating something out of nothing. There was an empty room with a sign on it that said, “computer laboratory.”

The Funjwa Primary School is located in Acornhoek, Limpopo Province, which is one of South Africa’s most impoverished, destitute areas. The dedicated teachers have few supplies to use in their classrooms, yet they are masters at creating something out of nothing. There was an empty room with a sign on it that said, “computer laboratory.”

In October, we had the honor of delivering ten used computers to the school. Seeds of Light volunteers in South Africa acquired & installed the computers, much to the delight the principal, Daphne Mhaule. It has long been her dream to have at least one computer at the school, so this event was cause for much celebration! There were presentations, speakers and refreshments. The children danced and sang and danced—a joyful party to celebrate the installation of the computers. Some of the guests were elders in the community. Now they are talking about having another, even bigger event, with many more dignitaries. All because of ten computers!

They have caused such a stir.

Leslie was invited to address the gathering. She told them how Seeds of Light first came into being and that we were involved mainly because we care—as simple as that. They seemed deeply touched by this.

The computers, in all their glory, are apparently more than just a teaching aid. It seems that they are symbolic of something far more valuable. They represent hope for the future and a sign that there is support coming to the people of Acornhoek, at last.

By bringing those computers to the school we did more than we could have imagined. What they really want is not money or things, although they want those too because they want to uplift the people. But what they want is love, acceptance, credibility, a hand of friendship, something that says, "We see and hear you, we accept that you are people too—let's work together." One of the speakers said that we were the kind of people that they wanted as friends; people who care. It was our recognition of them and our hand of friendship that seemed to amaze them and touch their hearts so much.

Leslie emailed us after the event commenting, “So, ten used computers form a beautiful, bright bridge for those souls in Acornhoek who still have a place in their hearts for people who care. We all felt very accepted and appreciated. I hope that we made a small dent in the lack of love and light that is holding this country back right now. I see now what it is that is causing a stasis—it is where there is not yet genuine equality in people’s hearts and no desire for it. Spirit is looking around to discover a commitment to love and light in people, nowadays—the ability to love one's neighbor, one's enemy even. God bless us all, may the angels show us the way.”
